If I was designing a hiring application, I would want to have an essay question at the end. It would just have instructions for length and spacing, no topic. If the applicant comes to me and asks "What am I supposed to write about?", then they're sane enough to be hired. If they fill out the whole space with an essay, then they're too crazy to be hired. If they go WAY BEYOND the instructed length, AND draw pictures illustrating their point (and the points made by their invisible friends), they're just the right amount of crazy to be hired as well.
